President Donald Trump will reportedly be donating $1 million to assist victims of Hurricane Harvey.
According to Breitbart, the move was announced today by White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
“He’s actually asked that I check with folks in this room since you are very good at research and have been doing a lot of reporting into groups and organizations that are best and most effective,” Sanders told the crowd, in reference to President Trump’s apparent desire to avoid one of the many ineffective organizations collecting money on behalf of Hurricane Harvey victims.
Sanders also confirmed that President Trump will be donating the money personally, as opposed to through the Trump organization.
See Sanders’ remarks below.
Naturally, during its coverage of the announcement, CNN just had to spin things in a negative light, harkening back to an April 2016 story from the outlet accusing Trump of being too slow for their liking in handing out $6 million raised at a rally for veterans.
CNN’s piece today pats “reporters” on the back, stating, “a promised donation to veterans’ groups during last year’s presidential campaign didn’t materialize until months later, after questions from reporters.”
In reality, CNN’s own April 2016 story states that half the money had been given out to veterans by the time reporters raised questions.
In CNN’s article today, the outlet also pats former President Barack Obama (although, oddly enough, they don’t refer to him as former) on the back for donating $200,000 to a fund for Haiti earthquake victims.
According to ABC News, President Trump will be in Texas and Louisiana this weekend to meet with families affected by Hurricane Harvey.
