“Right now a $500 million a year corporation is absolutely terrified of me and what I am going to publish next. Over a month ago I inserted myself into a non-political scandal and it’s now morphed into a hunt for pedophiles of which I am a principal figure.”
Investigative journalist Lou Colagiovanni wrote those words after appearing on Cernovich News. Immediately before Colagiovanni appeared on “American Revolution” with Andrew Meyer, a Vice President of Magic: The Gathering (MTG), a competitive card game with a reported 20 million players, went on Twitter to shout down Colagiovanni’s reporting.
“We have a zero-tolerance policy for sex offenders. Our standard and long-standing practice is to suspend offenders from the DCI and/or remove stores from the WPN,” wrote MTG Marketing VP Elaine Chase. MTG’s owner Wizards of the Coast is the subsidiary of the massive toy company Hasbro.

Why was Chase so worried that Colagiovanni would tell people MTG had failed to suspend sex offenders from a popular card game that millions of children play? Because, according to Colagiovanni, they had no such policy, and had allowed known pedophiles to enjoy a position of authority around children during MTG tournaments – events with tens of thousands of dollars on the line.
On Cernovich News, Colagiovanni and prominent MTG player and commentator Jeremy Hambly told the world that MTG had in fact allowed pedophiles to act as “judges” at their events, giving them authority over the children playing there.
“MagicGate,” as this story is being called, stemmed out of MTG banning Hambly for life from the game for having brash, outspoken anti-SJW opinions. After being banned and gaining a bigger following while speaking out about Magic’s administrators, Hambly was sent devastating information on a serious issue.
While Hambly was quickly banned for expressing controversial opinions, a registered sex offender that had been caught distributing child pornography was still allowed to play and “judge” tournaments, giving him authority over minors.
“Ross Stanley Prajzner, 35, is an avid MTG player and judge who judged at least 7 MTG events from 2012 through 2016 in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. He so thoroughly enjoyed judging tournaments he traveled hundreds of miles to do so. What a benefit to the community, no?” wrote Colagiovanni. “Perhaps that would be true if he was not convicted of sex crimes against children. Prajzner was caught distributing child pornography on October 3, 2013, by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. He has been forced to register as a sex offender in Pennsylvania.”
Prajzner was not an anomaly. As journalist Ian Miles Cheong has confirmed, “Sam Straus, a level-3 judge, pled guilty to the charges of taking indecent liberties with a child, and using electronic means to solicit sex from a child in September, 2014. He was arrested as part of an online sting operation by the Augusta County Sherriff’s Office.”
For daring to reveal this unthinkable scenario, Colagiovanni was sent death threats, while Hambly had one of his popular YouTube channels suspended in the midst of speaking to Cernovich News. Was Hasbro or MTG responsible for the mass flagging that took down Hambly’s channel? As the tweets of a Magic VP show, the company was desperate for people not to believe the information Hambly was revealing.
After the Cernovich News livestream on MagicGate, MTG officially banned Prajzner from their community.
YouTube, which was exposed protecting and allowing pedophile content to trend in the “ElsaGate” scandal, eventually restored Jeremy’s channel.
The ongoing MagicGate scandal has exposed suspicious actors in other niche communities. Conservative writer Jon Del Arroz was similarly banned from the Worldcon Sci-Fi Convention after reporting on Hambly’s story.
