The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has selected four companies to move onto the next round of a competition that will see one earning the exclusive rights to build a wall on the southern U.S. border.
According to The Hill, the four companies – Caddell Construction Co., Fisher Sand & Gravel Co., Texas Sterling Construction Co. and W.G. Yates & Sons Construction Company – will now move on to building prototypes for the structure in San Diego.
The outlet quotes U.S. Customs and Border Protection Acting Deputy Commissioner Ronald D. Vitiello as stating that this upcoming phase of the wall’s construction – set to begin in the fall – represents a “significant milestone.”
Speaking of stone, each wall prototype will reportedly be constructed out of concrete and measure 18 to 30 feet high. According to Vitiello, each wall prototype will cost between “just under $400,000 and just under $500,000.”
Funds from the fiscal year of 2017 – not the DHS’s yet-to-be-approved budget – will reportedly pay for the prototypes.
The Hill further quotes Vitiello as stating that the prototypes chosen to move onto the next phase were selected based on their appearance, strength, and ability to resist tampering.
Hear from Vitiello for yourself below.
Naturally, this news has plenty of liberals triggered.
