Black Lives Matter activist Chanelle Helm has published a list of demands for white people to heed following this month’s violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, because apparently all white people were responsible for that.
“This article is part of a package covering Louisville’s reaction to Charlottesville,” Helm’s piece begins.
With that out of the way, Helm proceeds to list “some things I’m thinking about that should change.”
“White people, if you don’t have any descendants, will your property to a black or brown family,” she commands in the first point. “Preferably one that lives in generational poverty.”
“White people, if you’re inheriting property you intend to sell upon acceptance, give it to a black or brown family. You’re bound to make that money in some other white privileged way.”
Helm continues, “white people, if you can afford to downsize, give up the home you own to a black or brown family. Preferably a family from generational poverty.”
“White people, especially white women (because this is yaw specialty — Nosey Jenny and Meddling Kathy), get a racist fired. Yaw know what the fuck they be saying. You are complicit when you ignore them. Get your boss fired cause they racist too.”
Helm goes on to encourage violence, telling white people that if they notice a fellow white person praising “the actions” (she doesn’t specify what actions) taken in Charlottesville, “you got hands: use them.”
Helm’s piece has attracted quite a bit of flack.
“Is this satire?” wrote one user in the comments. “I mean it. Is this a joke?”
“You have a hashtag at the end which is #Reperation. You couldn’t take the time to look up how to spell reparations? It takes some serious skill to make an ultra-liberal like myself sympathize with Nazis. But this incredibly bigotted, anti-white rant is exactly what does it.”
Another woman wrote, “as a ‘white’ woman who has always stood up to racism and taught my children to as well, I find the slamming of all white people in this article as bad as anyone who stereotypically labels anyone.”
“I love how all of this is all about money and property,” wrote another user. “How about you put an effort into getting a job and earning your own fucking property?”
