The left-wing American Prospect has published an interview with White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon that is catching lots of attention – and moving the national conversation away from Charlottesville.
Bannon has said he wasn’t aware he was giving an interview when he called editor Robert Kuttner to discuss an article he wrote on China, the angle of which Bannon admired.
In his conversation with Kuttner, Bannon said, “Ethno-nationalism – it’s losers. It’s a fringe element. I think the media plays it up too much, and we gotta…help crush it more.”
Bannon also relished the Democrats talking about identity politics, saying “I want them to talk about racism every day. If the left is focused on race and identity, and we go with economic nationalism, we can crush the Democrats.”

A Bannon ally just called to say this was the play: draw a line on economic nationalism and see what happens… https://t.co/1CboJMJogu

Some strategic thinkers, including Mike Cernovich, see Bannon’s surprise “interview” as a way to draw media attention away from President Trump and the unpleasant conversation surrounding the violence in Charlottesville.
Bannon did this interview to draw fire away from POTUS, and it's working. https://t.co/bZRjauV6LQ

Whether Bannon is indeed playing “4-D Chess” or not, the media is certainly taking the bait.
more a dare for Trump to fire him. If 45 doesn't fire him, it's signal to Bannon's detractors w/in whitehouse. Else, blame globalists for it
